Dear Hornet Families,

Last year we lost one of our own. Alex Chavez was a great student, joyful friend, enthusiastic athlete, kind brother and an amazing person. We are dedicating one of our beautiful trees in his honor. The tree is in the middle quad of the school and there is now a plaque with his name on it. We invite you all to visit Alex’s tree and send him your positive thoughts. We will be having a dedication ceremony in June that will coincide with the Alex Chavez Cup, the soccer game played between the 5th graders and Hyde Staff. Hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Michael Berman
Principal, H. A. Hyde Elementary

Sinceramente,

Sr. Berman

We want everyone to know that school is a safe place for students.  Also we would like to spread awareness of people's constitutional rights. We have cards containing information about your rights in regards to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).  If you would like a card, you may pick one up at the office.

A Trip to Wilder Ranch

Ms. Islas' and Ms. Rigler’s 3rd grade students recently had the opportunity to visit and participate in Wilder Ranch State Park’s Ranch Day to experience what life was like on the ranch 100 years ago. The teachers were given a grant to help pay for the transportation and State Park Ranch Day activities. Students were offered traditional dress, and invited to participate in four activities: cooking (including making butter and corn bread muffins), laundry, blacksmithing and the horse ride.  Volunteers at the park and parent chaperones all helped to make this day one of the best to learn local history of the Santa Cruz area.  Wilder Ranch State Park was one of the main dairy ranches on the Central Coast, and provided milk to residents in Santa Cruz and the surrounding areas.

New routine for end-of-day pick up starts November 1st for 3rd-5th graders

Dear Parents,

Due to safety concerns we are changing our pick up routine at the end of each school day.  Starting on Tuesday, November 1st,

students in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade will continue to be picked up at Alta Vista Ave.  Students who walk home will still walk home after the bell as they have done. The big change is that 3rd, 4th and 5th graders that get picked up will now be getting picked up by the garden on Santa Clara St. If the 3rd, 4th or 5th Grader has younger siblings in K, 1st or 2nd they will go with the younger sibling to the front of the school.

Our hope is to reduce congestion and make it safer for everyone during this busy time of the day. Please help us by working with your child to ensure that they know which spot they are supposed to go to for pick up.

Estimados Padres,
